Whayne janitors working at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory or NREL in Golden have been fighting to join SEIU Local 105 since earlier this year. Despite the majority voting for our union, their employer Whayne Enterprises continued to dispute their rights and several members were fired for their union activities.
“It has been a tough campaign. Many of my co-workers believed in the power of our union but were afraid of retaliation by Whayne,” said member leader Beatriz Medina.
After we filed over 20 Unfair Labor Practices (ULPs) against them, members are beginning to victory. The National Labor Relations Board agrees with our members and has ordered over $24,000 in back pay.
This is the most back pay/reimbursement we have won for our members in a single unit this year!
