Fast Food workers across the Denver Metro Area walked off the job Thursday, December 5th as part of a nationwide strike that took place in over 10o cities across the country.
“I am striking today because we deserve dignity and respect at work. After working in the food industry for over 20 years, I can tell you there is now way we can support a family on what we make- that’s why I’m fighting for $15,” said Damian Abbot, one of the striking workers from a McDonald’s on West Colfax in Lakewood.
Fast food workers from six cities in the Denver metro area walked off the job and participated in the strike. Actions took place at a McDonald’s on West Colfax in Lakewood and at the McDonald’s on 16th Street Mall during lunchtime.
“It’s very exciting to have such strong community support,” said Brent Dhanie, another striking worker from McDonald’s. “I know I couldn’t do it without all of these folks.”
The strikes were covered by local Channels 7 and 9 and mentioned on the national NBC Nightly news. Strikes and community allies stood in sub-zero temperature for the early morning strike.
