On October 1st, 25 million uninsured Americans will be able to sign up for health insurance through new health insurance marketplaces.

The best answer to attacks on our healthcare is to educate people about the law and all the benefits it has and will deliver.
The law is working. But Republican extremists in Congress continue their political games with our healthcare–just this week they’re scheduling their 37th vote to repeal the lifesaving law. As a nurse I know politics don’t belong in our hospitals and I know that Obamacare has already delivered benefits to 100 million Americans by:
- Providing preventive health services like well child visits, cancer screenings and annual checkups at no additional cost;
- Allowing young adults to stay on a parent’s health insurance plan if they’re under 26;
- Saving seniors on prescription medicines if they participate in Medicare;
- Providing coverage for people with pre-existing conditions; and
- Ending the worst insurance company abuses like charging women more than men for the same coverage and putting arbitrary dollar limits on care.
You have the power to make sure this healthcare law works.
Obamacare is the law of the land. This is not going to change no matter what happens with the U.S. House of Representatives’ 37th Obamacare repeal vote. The U.S. Senate and President Obama won’t allow Republican extremists in the House of Representatives to repeal the law. But we all need to do our part letting people know that they can sign up for health insurance in October.
It’s disappointing that instead of recognizing how far we’ve come thanks to the law, there’s a wave of misinformed political rhetoric about repealing it. As a nurse, I simply can’t understand the nostalgia for the days when insurance companies dropped those who were seriously ill, young people got kicked off their parents insurance at age 18 and being a woman of child-bearing age was considered a pre-existing condition. Congress’ priorities are out of sync.
Far away from the security of the fully-paid healthcare coverage members of Congress enjoy, the patients I see are struggling to afford gas to get to work, pay that next electric bill or worrying about whether or not they will keep their jobs. They’re counting on Obamacare to provide them with affordable insurance options through the marketplaces. For 25 million Americans, October 1st can’t get here fast enough.
We need Congress to focus on creating jobs and protecting essential services. But we have a Congress that keeps holding pointless votes to repeal Obamacare in an effort to score political points without consideration for the people they would be denying lifesaving healthcare. They think that we aren’t paying attention. Prove them wrong by sharing this video to help people get the healthcare they need.
Unlike Congress, we can’t waste time getting the healthcare we need. And we won’t stand for Congress blocking access to healthcare.
